About First Step Counseling

First Step was created as a subsidiary of 2 Foot Prints, Inc, an adult foster care facility stationed in Inkster, MI. Kevin Hankerson, the president and founder of 2 Foot Prints, Inc. observed that there was a strong demand for an adult foster care home in the state of Georgia and sought out his brother, Garry A. Hankerson, Jr. who currently resides in Atlanta, GA to run the home. Through, their research and mentoring from a friend of the department of human resources, they found another service that was far more needed in the state of Georgia: Intensive Family Intervention (IFI).

First Step was founded in 1999 as an approved Medicaid and PeachCare provider by the state of Georgia providing intensive family intervention services to their clients. In 2009, First Step Counseling Services, Inc became a nonprofit organization offering an additional array of services to their clients such as group therapy and mentorship to name a few.  Since its inception, First Step has successfully built a diverse team that takes pride in servicing our clients with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.  Our counselors are relatable people you can trust…who truly care about your family and are committed to making your future better.
